Australian – Kuwaiti Relations


Bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the Commonwealth of Australia have developed greatly since the declaration of independence
of the State of Kuwait in 1961.

Furthermore, business relations and trade exchange have prospered between the two countries;

Examples for successful deals between Australia and the state of kuwait :-

  • Mr.James Stafford’s (Executive Manager International Business Development) key message:
         "Think in terms of years if you want to establish a successful presence in Kuwait" .

  • Mr.Romy Hawatt (Business consultant) key message:
         ‘Don’t tell them what they need. Ask what you can do for them.’

  • Prof. David Widdowson (Director,Centre for Customs and Excise Studies) key message:

The State of Kuwait established many investment projects all over Australia.

An Australian Embassy had been opened in the State of Kuwait in 1974, and due to economic reasons, the Embassy was closed in 1985, and the
Australian Embassy in Riyadh took over its affairs.

A Kuwaiti Military liaison office had been opened in Australia in 1993 and later closed in 2001.

The First Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Australia has been open since 31/1/2002.
