developed over the years and the economic condition of the country is flourishing day by day, it can easily afford to have
the best of the medical facilities and services.

Public healthcare is provided through a number of clinics and hospitals. The clinics are located throughout Kuwait and can
usually be found next to the local supermarket or co-operative. Clinics offer preliminary examinations and routine check-ups
and services, and will refer a patient to a specialist where necessary. All public facilities are open to expatriate residents.
There are currently five major (general) government hospitals throughout the country, all of which provide an outpatients
service. These hospitals are recommended for emergency treatment although not all facilities have obvious emergency
entrances. It is advisable to pass by when you are in the area to establish exactly where the entrance is. It will make life a
lot less stressful if you ever need to find it in a hurry.
Your Civil ID card will need to be produced when visiting the government hospitals for treatment
Private healthcare is of a high standard, although it does come at a price. There is an ever-increasing number of private
hospitals and clinics in Kuwait, all of which require a patient to register prior to treatment. Your Civil ID card is required
(passports are accepted for visitors to Kuwait and new residents yet to receive their Civil ID card).
Private medical insurance is not absolutely necessary in Kuwait. However, expatriates generally prefer to be covered by
private insurance allowing for the use of private hospitals and clinics where there are more comfortable facilities and
shorter waiting periods. English is spoken at both government and private hospitals.
Pharmacies are located next to hospitals and clinics and at most co-operatives. A number of night pharmacies are listed in
the newspaper on a daily basis.
